May I also suggest checking out the Blackest Night series? I'm not a big fan of the Green Lantern Mythos, but this storyline was quite entertaining. Angry Dog is quite an offbeat web series, it's from Australia so it is a bit like Vegemite. Finally, the web series There Will Be Brawl was a nice spectacle that finished a couple of weeks ago. The Boys is a fairly good read if you’re interested in Transmetropolitan.

The Wire had me hooked, as well. It's my favorite series out of the three you mentioned there. Great characters, acting, direction. You should buy the Firefly boxed set simply because you can buy it for about $20, which is a steal. A series that got canceled well before it should have.
